Carol Bell comes from Felindre, near Swansea, and has lived and worked in London since 1980.

After starting her career in oil and gas, she moved into investment banking in 1986 and held senior positions at JP Morgan and Chase Manhattan before leaving the City to write a doctorate on the archaeology of ancient trade in the Eastern Mediterranean in 2000.

Since completing her thesis in 2005, she has developed a range of business and charity interests. Carol serves on three public company boards as a non-executive director (Hardy Oil & Gas plc, Petroleum Geo-Services ASA and Det norske oljeselskap ASA), Chairs the Investment Committee of Girton College, Cambridge and is Treasurer of The British School at Athens and the Institute for Archaeometallurgical Studies at University College London, where she is also a member of the Campaign Executive Committee.

She is also a trustee of the Levantine Foundation and the Renewable Energy Foundation.

Carol continues her academic research and participates in teaching MA courses at UCL, where she is an Honorary Research Associate.

Having been educated at Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera, she is a frequent broadcaster on business related matters in the Welsh language and now divides her time between London and Cardiff.
