Bryn Terfel returns to London’s Southbank Centre

The internationally renowned singer, Sir Bryn Terfel will be appearing at London’s Royal Festival Hall this autumn. 

The Welsh bass-baritone has performed in all the great opera houses of the world, and is especially recognised for his portrayals of Falstaff, Dulcamara, Wotan and Holländer. Recent additions to his repertoire include Reb Tevye, Boris Godunov and Sweeney Todd. 

After winning the Song Prize at the 1989 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World, Sir Bryn made his professional operatic début in 1990 as Guglielmo in Così fan tutte with Welsh National Opera. He made his international operatic début in 1991 as Speaker in Die Zauberlöte at the Théâtre de la Monnaie, Brussels and his American début in the same year as Figaro with Santa Fe Opera. Equally at home on the concert platform, his highlights range from the opening ceremony of the Wales Millennium Centre to a Gala Concert with Andrea Bocelli in Central Park, New York and for nine years, he hosted his own festival in Faenol, North Wales. A Grammy, Classical Brit and Gramophone Award winner, Sir Bryn received a knighthood for his service to music in 2017. Other honours include a CBE (2003), the Queen’s Medal for Music (2006), the Shakespeare Prize by the Alfred Toepfer Foundation (2006) and the Freedom of the City of London (2015).

In this special concert, Sir Bryn Terfel will perform a selection of his favourite arias and songs including Mozart: ‘Non piu andrai’ from The Marriage of Figaro; Mozart: ‘Madamina, il catalogo è questo’ from Don Giovanni; Wagner: ‘Wotan’s Farewell’ from The Valkyrie; Verdi: ‘L’onore! Ladri!’ from Falstaff; Bock: ‘If I Were A Rich Man’ from Fiddler on the Roof.
