Huw began his career as a Graduate Personnel Management Trainee at Port Sunlight with the Unilever Group.

He worked in Personnel Management roles with European responsibilities, at both, Philips Industries and Harris Corporation of the US. Huw made the transfer to sales management with Harris, and moved to work with McDonnell Douglas Information Systems in a European new business development role.

In 1990 Huw joined Siemens, and eventually held the role of Senior Vice President, Line of Business Telecommunication for Siemens Business Services AG.

From 1999 to 2009 Huw spent 10 years in Sweden specialising in high technology company development for European venture capitalists. Huw successfully led the trade sales of both iD2 Technologies AB and Mobeon AB for $250m and 350m SEK, respectively.

Huw returned to the UK and in January 2010 joined OXIS Energy Ltd, Oxfordshire. OXIS Energy Ltd is a research and development company at the forefront of building the next generation of high- energy rechargeable Lithium Sulphur batteries. Huw was tasked with a brief to make the technology more commercial, so that it could be used in everyday applications such as electric vehicles, solar storage and portal electronic devices. His priority was to place the company on a sound financial footing.

Since March 2010 the company has continued to perfect and improve its chemistry and technology. In September 2013 Sasol, South Africa announced a strategic investment of GBP15 million, through Sasol New Energy (SNE).

At the start of 2010, OXIS employed just 10 people. Today it has a workforce of 50 with an even mix of MSc, MA and PhD’s. Huw is a keen rugby supporter – no guesses for which team, and is a member of the WALES Master Veterans Hockey team.
